How to make a super-planned itinerary and save yourself from trip disasters!

One of the biggest reasons people do not get the maximum fun out of their travels is because they miss out on a few cool places they should have visited if only they had enough time. Or, the most common one is "I never knew this place is open till 5 in the evening. I am not going to get the best pics for my insta account"

But let me tell you that there's a very easy step-by-step way to make an itinerary that will make your trip worth every moment in the place of your choice.

So, here it goes:

#1 Basic Research - This is the groundwork supported by the primary reason due to which one plans to visit a city. Reasons could be any of the following:

Food - Your taste buds can carry you miles from your place, don't underestimate them
Culture - Every country, every city stands proud of it's culture and serves as a big reason to explore that place
Any world-famous festival or an event - There are so many of these and are a total crowd-puller (such as Gran Prix or the Sports Championship)
Natural Beauty - Mountains, Lakes, Beaches, Seas are just a few of the many things Nature-lovers explore around the world and make a big reason for visiting a place.
Nightlife - This happens to be a huge reason why people want to go to certain cities. New York, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Bangkok, HongKong, Miami, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo are a few cities around the world to offer it.

It is best to learn from experiences of people who have visited places of your choice and have shared about their travel experiences online. You can also visit websites such as TripAdvisor, Yahoo! Travel, Expedia, Kayak, AirBnB, Lonely Planet and Viator.

One more tip to have a great itinerary is to have a digital organizer. Evernote is an amazing app to organize all the places you want to visit and all the things you want to do, at each and every day of your travel.

#2 Chart your places on a Map - Get a map that aptly represents the city and which you are comfortable with. You can google many of them, however I have found the one from Public Transit as the best. I always prefer exploring a city through Public transit and that's why I find Public Transit maps of the city most helpful.
Further, you can chart out the places you want to visit, over the map. This way you get an idea of how far the places are to each other and how they can be clustered in areas so that you get the maximum out of your day with the minimum spend on city traffic/ city travel.

#3 Budget your Time and Money - After you have zeroed down on the places you want to visit and the experience you expect from your visit, you should get hold of two very important things for your trips:

Time - Check the operating hours if there are any. There are places which operate till 4:00 in the evening, a few that are there till late in the evening. There are restaurants and breweries operating after 12 and a few very famous cafes that close by 9. It's important to keep a track of timings so that your plan help you makes the most out of your day.

Money - Just as time, you can budget money as well, especially if you are in the habit of  budgeting your expenses and if you value your money. You can start with the Hotel Bookings and Travel arrangements for air/road/rail for the trip. This could follow with your in-city movement expense. There are several type of passes offered by City Transits which could help with the cost of travel. You could also find the entry fee that are required to visit certain places. And then there are food/restaurant expenses which could range from a burger at a local shop to a wine-and-dine experience at a top-notch hotel. You should always keep 15% of the budgeted extra for miscellaneous. There could be some local thing souvenir that you want to have, or a type of beer you want to try (and try a bit more...) or something else which you cannot figure out in the planning so far.

You can also make sections while budgeting your money, such as, Stay, Travel, In-City Transit, Food, Shopping etc. Keeping it organised in the beginning helps you manage things better all the way.

With these three basic steps, you can make an awesome itinerary and make the best of your trips, always!
